Van water & payload planner

Calculate water weight, total added load and remaining van payload.

Use a measured base van weight in a known state. It must exclude the water, people and kit you add below. If any item is already in the base weight, enter only its additional weight. Include empty tank, mounts, fuel and recovery equipment in your figures.

Formula and worked example

Available payload = plated GVW − measured base weight. Added load = water litres × 1 kg/L + kit + people. Remaining margin = available payload − added load.

Illustrative example: GVW 3,500 kg, base van 2,200 kg, water 300 L, kit 200 kg and people 160 kg. Available payload: 1300 kg. Added load: 660 kg. Remaining: 640 kg.

A positive result cannot certify a vehicle. Check axle weights, load distribution, restraints and licence requirements separately. Weigh the actual loaded van.
